Why Artist Should Focus On Marketing, Even Before Their Music Releases.

With the music industry constantly growing, there are more individuals showcasing their musical talents who might not have been many years ago. This industry is one of the fastest-growing communities and is currently up 27% this year alone. Saturated with talented individuals, the majority is unsure of how to properly release their music and even promote themselves.

There are many phases an artist should go through, and trial and error should be a huge one. If you have a release coming up, it is important to know that starting your marketing or working with a marketing team the same day you release your project is not effective at all. Marketing is a very difficult process, and you need time to strategically plan for the best release. All proper releases have a release strategy, and it is something you build for weeks and months earlier.

Being in a position to constantly provide these strategies,  artists prefer this strategy because of the traction. What happens is when you gain traction on a certain release then release another song, you are more inclined to get streams on the other release as well. Marketing isn’t the aspect that’s important, even though it should be the main component.

A lot of misconceptions have been thrown around in the music industry saying that “if my sound is good enough, it will do all the work for me,” which many believe is completely untrue. There should be a good sound, professional cover art to lure listeners in to want to listen, potentially a professional video and amazing marketing to get the job done. Being a musician is a difficult task; you have to be able to work hard before being able to just create music and not having to worry about anything else in the future.

As an artist, your music should be your passion; you must have knowledge of other avenues to push yourself to the limit. Nowadays, it isn’t just being an artist. You have to be knowledgeable in social media, visuals and branding at least a little. This industry is very competitive, and it is very common that you see one artist being their own producer, engineer, graphic artist, editor and more. There are a lot of steps to have your head in the right direction as a creative, but knowing what to do before a release is a great start.

Portraying yourself professionally is something that will never go unnoticed in any industry. This will give you the edge over others in your industry simply just by showing the best side of yourself. Make sure you keep working toward your goal, and you will notice it pays off tremendously. Organic marketing, branding and great content can improve any release strategy that you have done so far. If you have a team, build a relationship with them beforehand so none of the results are rushed. The results will always show in the results you have with your team, and everything worthwhile takes time.
